The Four SDA Design Categories
NDIS-funded SDA housing comes in four design categories, each suited to different levels of need:
- Improved Liveability — enhanced design for participants with sensory, intellectual, or cognitive impairments. Better lighting, clear sightlines, and reduced complexity in the home environment.
- Fully Accessible — step-free access, wide corridors, and accessible bathrooms for participants with significant physical impairments.
- Robust — reinforced construction for participants who may present challenging behaviours, with features that improve safety for both the participant and support workers.
- High Physical Support — the highest level, with ceiling hoists, automated doors, emergency power, and provisions for on-site overnight support for participants with very high physical needs.

SDA and SIL — how they work together
SDA funds the property — the building and its specialist features. Supported Independent Living (SIL) funds the supports — the people who help you with daily living inside that home. Most participants who access SDA also need SIL funding. Blue Wing can assist with both, giving you a single point of contact for your housing and your care.
